A photograph preserved by the McCord Stewart Museum shows a horse-drawn delivery wagon in Montréal around 1910. It documents one way of moving goods through the streets. Our illustration uses the idea of horse-drawn transport without copying that photograph or depicting its business.
'Around 1910' places the scene in time without suggesting that trucks suddenly replaced all horses. Ask what carries the goods and what helps the driver guide the wagon. Your child can imagine a route from a starting point to the houses being served. The photograph begins the conversation; it does not represent every delivery at that time.
