A spinning wheel is a textile-working tool that helps turn fibres into yarn. Québec's cultural heritage directory describes one made in Québec after 1850, using wood and metal. This record gives an example that has been preserved; it does not date the first use of all spinning wheels.
The large wheel catches the eye, but the hands guiding the fibres are just as important. Help your child distinguish the yarn produced here from the cloth in the loom scene. The comparison tells a story of successive changes. This wheel is an interpretation, and its mechanism is not a construction plan.
