In 1701, representatives of 39 Indigenous nations gathered in Montréal to make peace with the French. The Wendat diplomat Kondiaronk played an important role in the discussions.

On August 4, 1701, representatives of 39 Indigenous nations and France concluded the Great Peace of Montréal. More than 1,300 Indigenous delegates gathered in the city. Kondiaronk, an important Wendat diplomat, contributed to the talks but died before the signing.
The drawing is a symbolic gathering, not portraits of participants or an exact record of their clothing. Talk about listening, disagreements and commitments made together.
