Dinosaur origins remain under study. Herrerasaurus is a Triassic example from about 230 million years ago, not a claim that the first dinosaurs originated exactly then. Evolution is branching ancestry, not a ladder in which Herrerasaurus turns directly into Tyrannosaurus.
