Coelophysis had a light body, long neck and long tail. It lived in the Triassic, in what is now the southwestern United States.

The portrait represents Coelophysis bauri, known especially from New Mexico. Many skeletons were found at Ghost Ranch. Old cannibalism claims are omitted: bones inside one fossil had been misidentified.
