Soil Beneath Our Feet
Earth

Soil contains rock particles, material from living things, air and water. Roots find resources there to grow.
Did you know?
Soil is also home to many living things.

Find the worm, small stones and leaves in the garden.
An idea to try

A little more to discover
The child observes the surface of a real garden: an earthworm, small stones, fallen leaves and a young plant. The magnifier enlarges ordinary shapes; it is not a microscopic view. Air and water also occupy small spaces in soil, even though the picture does not show them.
Look together: find the leaf pieces and stones. With an adult, the child can observe a little soil in a container without disturbing animals, then wash their hands.
