Scientific name: Castor canadensis. Where it lives: Lakes, ponds and waterways across many parts of Canada. What it eats: Bark, twigs, leaves and aquatic plants. A lodge’s entrances are usually underwater. Some beavers also build dams; others live beside water that is already deep enough. Their food comes from plants.
