Choose an everyday object at home. Ask your child to name three details they can see, then imagine a question a museum visitor might ask about it.

A museum object can start a conversation about something familiar: getting dressed, playing, cooking or communicating. The Musée de la civilisation invites young children to compare objects from the past and present. You do not need a long list of dates to begin: an object's shape, material and use already offer clues.
Help your child separate what they can see from what they are guessing. A jug has a handle; finding out who owned it requires other information. Welcome a suggestion, then explain what still needs checking. The drawing shows an imaginary museum. Its display encourages observation without reproducing a particular collection.
